Job-Seeking Skills Training

Job-seeking skills training is often provided when providing rehabilitation counseling services to clients seeking to find and secure new employment. Job-seeking skills training is intended to assist individuals with developing the ability to conduct a thorough job search in one or more labor markets to maximize his or her likelihood of finding suitable employment opportunities.  Specific skills or activities that may be included as part of this training include the following: locating local job opportunities through sources such as newspapers, online job search engines, job boards and direct employer contacts; developing job application documents such as resumes and cover letters; determining how to address work accommodations that may be necessary; learning how to handle challenging job interview questions; following up with employers after completing job applications and/or interviews; developing solid work habits and behaviors that increase the probability an individual will not only be able to find but also maintain employment in the future.
